How to Publish a Book for Pre-Teens, Part II
In the last post we discussed the desire for some authors to write and publish a book that is solely meant for pre-teens – a challenging goal to say the least. Once a writer is confident that they are able to “speak the language” of this particular generation and they craft a story that makes sense for this age group, they may wonder what to do with their finished manuscript. While it would be nice to simply submit a manuscript to a traditional book publisher and have them decide on the spot that they wish to print your book, this is not how the process works. Rather, it tends to be a very long road that often requires literary agent representation and just as often ends in rejection.
Rather, for those authors who wish to simply go forward with the publishing of their book in a non-traditional – but just as effective – way, there is the availability of self book publishers that are currently found online.
The Internet, in fact, has completely opened the world of publishing to would-be authors, allowing them to take control of the publishing process. Offering comprehensive websites, self book publishers provide writers the ability to upload their finished manuscript and make simple choices regarding the finished manifestation of the book, including:
* The choice of binding. Perfect bound or staple bound – it’s completely up to the writer and also the length of the book in consideration.
* Paper stock and ink varieties. Oftentimes, writers are able to make choices regarding the weight of the paper and the type of ink that will be used. These small details have enormous impact on the finished product.
* The inclusion of artwork and/or photographs. Oftentimes self book publishers offer authors the ability to upload any artwork or photographs they wish to include in their story. These details can really finish a book off nicely.
* Quantity printed. Online self book publishers actually allow the writer to determine how many copies of their book they wish to print. Once their book is printed, writers can then determine where they would like them to go – straight to their door, or to a retail outlet for sale.
